'Dirty Wars' Director Says U.S. Has Lost All 'Moral Credibility' in War on Terror

The director of the new documentary Dirty Wars, a film detailing America’s secretive military tactics against Al Qaeda, says the country’s moral standing in the fight against terrorism is history.

“We’ve lost every shred of credibility around the world, from Iraq to Yemen and Pakistan … we’ve unleashed through these drone strikes a backlash,” says Rick Rowley, a veteran war correspondent who worked with The Nation's Jeremy Scahill on the film. “We’ve lost any moral credibility on these issues.”
Dirty Wars documents the worldwide actions of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the little known branch of the U.S. military which famously took out Osama bin Laden and continues to work around the world to snuff out terrorists. The film looks at how the group's secretive actions, and the ongoing drone strikes targeting terrorists, often injure or kill innocent civilians. Rowley and Scahill insist those attacks are creating more terrorists and turning possible allies against us.
Rowley doesn’t pull a single punch when it comes to how the press has treated President Barack Obama’s hand in the country’s ongoing war tactics.
“There was the hope and perception amongst a lot of liberals that the part of the global war on terror we found unsavory … torture, rendition, civilian casualties … were an aberration that happened under Bush and Cheney,” says Rowley, who includes a scene which appears to show Obama’s approval for the continued imprisonment of a Yemeni journalist investigating a JSOC strike. “Your principles are tested, not when they’re violated by a cartoonish villain like Dick Cheney, but when they’re violated by someone you voted for.”
So far, the press and some liberals have failed the principle test, according to Rowley. Had some of the current actions being undertaken by the White House occurred under a President McCain or Romney administration “there would be a massive outcry in Congress and parts of the press,” he says.
Shooting Dirty Wars proved consistently dangerous, as is the case whenever you leave the protective umbrella of the U.S. military.
“Every time you go out and try to cover things on your own, you make your own calculations to feel out what’s safe and what’s possible,” says Rowley, who grew a beard along with Scahill to help avoid being spotted instantly as an outsider. “In every country we came up with a different calculation.”
“When the Taliban takes over the roads," he adds, "it’s impossible to travel.”
The film routinely shows difficult images of civilian corpses, shots that would make even battle-hardened warriors wince.
“You walk a line, a fine line always, when you cover war,” he says. “You need to show the intensity and violence in a way that’s visceral. If you go too far, you show people as meat.”
When asked if he would be interested in a follow-up documentary describing more effective tactics to defeat global terrorism based on his vast experience covering terror issues Rowley declines, saying he’s no pundit and has no ideological ax to grind. He simply wants Americans to know precisely what the government is doing in their name.
“The global war on terror is the most important story of our generation,” he says. “It’s being conducted without our knowledge or our consent.”

Obama received Noble Peace Prize!?!?For What?!?! What a FCKEN Joke!

Obama is certainly not a man of peace. In fact, whilst receiving the peace prize, several air-strikes of Pakistani targets were underway- air-strikes that he authorized! The truth of the matter is that Obama is a huge Capitalist cock-sucker, a war-monger, and Curious George look-a-like.
Where are we getting the money for this new war with Libya? Oh yeah, I forgot- YOU AND ME. The U.S. government demands our tax dollars so that we can help finance air-raids against brown people. Well I’m fed up with having to pay for this kind of bulls**t- and I may just wind up in a jail cell someday soon because I’m about to claim myself as “tax exempt” (like all the religious nut-cases are able to do).
I love watching how hard-core Democrats struggle to justify the bombing of Libya. Supplant Obama with George Bush and there would be rioting in the streets over this latest act of U.S. aggression! By all means, I simply recognize the truth- that the U.S. President, Democrat or Republican, is a pawn to international bankers who will stop at nothing until the entire planet belongs to them in one form or the other.
And whilst Barry Obama authorizes a ground assault in Libya, Americans sit at home watching “the big game”, fiddling around with their weiners. Thank you, America for your efforts at keeping our leaders in check :)

Impeach Obama for continuing Bush's crimes

President Obama should be impeached, removed from office and prosecuted for war crimes. He continued President Bush’s illegal wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, illegal torture of prisoners in Guantanamo and other places, and massive illegal spying on Americans. These actions by Bush were illegal under our Constitution, U.S. laws, and international law.
These three issues — wars, torture and spying — are the major reasons various members of Congress called for impeachment of Bush and Vice President Cheney from 2005 onward. The impeachment resolutions were not taken up by the House committees because the top Democrat, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, ordered, “Impeachment is off the table.”
Many House and Senate Democrats and Republicans were and are complicit in the approval of the Bush/Cheney crime spree and the continuation of that crime spree by Obama. But remember, it was the Democratic leaders who thwarted the will of millions of Americans who called for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. And it is likely they will do the same for the call to impeach Obama. But the call must still be made. Veterans for Peace called for Obama's impeachment in 2011 just as they called for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney in 2005.
Our Declaration of Independence and Constitution founded our nation based on the rule of law — rather than the rule of political whim. The Constitution calls for representative government in which Congress makes the laws, the executive branch enforces those laws, and the judiciary processes the cases of alleged law breaking to determine innocence or guilt and punishment.
Our system is broken in so many ways. Our nation’s wealth — in human resources and dollars — is being squandered. Afghanistan and Iraq have been ruined civically, physically, economically and environmentally. Millions of people have lost their lives, schools, health, emotional stability, wealth, family, homes and future due to America’s ferocious war on them and their own civil wars. And only a fool would say we “won” these wars.
It is time for a revolution! It is time to remove the leader of the executive branch of our government — Obama. Specifically, we should impeach him, remove him from office and prosecute Obama, Bush and Cheney for war crimes and massive illegal spying.
Some Democrats may exclaim, "Oh, no! We might get a Republican president!" To live under the rule of law, we must enforce the laws and lets the chips fall where they may.
Our Declaration of Independence and Constitution provide us with two ways to accomplish revolution. Conduct war — we called it the Revolutionary War in the 1770s. Realizing the horror of war, those same Founders provided a peaceful way to conduct revolution in the Constitution adopted in 1787.
Under the Constitution, the House of Representatives investigates what it feels are "high crimes or misdemeanors" committed by a leader, decides there is reasonable likelihood that such crimes have been committed, and drafts articles of impeachment. If a majority of the House votes in favor of one or more articles, then the Senate conducts an impeachment trial on those articles/crimes. If the Senate votes the person is guilty of one or more of those crimes, the person is impeached and removed from office. Note: The impeached person is immediately removed from office and stripped of any government support (salary, pensions, guards, offices and health care). But that person cannot be imprisoned, fined or executed.
Result: A revolution has been conducted using the rule of law rather than assassinations, weapons and death.
We must face the facts as adults. For the last 50 years, we have had leaders of both parties lying to us and the Congress and finagling us into war after war after war. And the present leaders promise us more wars. Neither America nor the world can stand much more of this macho, risky behavior that kills so many and enriches only the corporations and top politicians that feed on war like vultures but avoid battle themselves.
We must impeach and prosecute Obama, Bush and Cheney to again create an opportunity for our people to live under the rule of law and regain our freedoms. In order to do this we must set aside our alliances to political parties, look at the laws, look at the alleged crimes, and make our decisions trying to do what is best for the future of our people and the rest of the world.
We have been a brutal nation; we must face that fact and try to regain our footing and our way — for we are lost.
