British outrage over tax plan to take 7% of everyones saving's account

Thousands of British have reacted with outrage at the plans to tax bank accounts which are in credit. The great EU bank robbery, as it's been dubbed by some of the 60,000 or so ex pats living on the island has forced many to start plans to withdraw their savings as Susan Cairns who has lived and worked on the island since 2007 explained.

"On Tuesday I plan to go to the bank and withdraw all the money I have in there and have nothing left in there. You know, I can't trust them anymore. It's theft. They are stealing from me. That's how I see it," she said.

"I think it is particularly unfair for people that have saved and tried hard to keep some money in the bank, and it's just a blanket tax across everybody. I understand people with higher savings getting taxed more, but 6.75 percent seems an awful lot of money to me. I think it's a very clever way of making sure that Cyprus pays its fair share," opined another, Stuart Cowell.

British Chancellor George Osborne said his government will reimburse military and government personnel working on the island. But the UK tax payer will have to foot the bill.

Constantine Georgiou, a British Cypriot believes the Cypriot politicians should act. "The government should investigate thoroughly and find the people responsible for this mess, prosecute them, put them in prison, even if he is the ex-president, whoever is responsible," he said.

Solyndra caught destroying it's own parts

FREMONT (CBS 5) — After filing for bankruptcy last year, Fremont solar company Solyndra still owes American taxpayers half a billion dollars. But CBS 5 caught them destroying millions of dollars worth of parts.

At Solyndra's sprawling complex in Fremont, workers in white jumpsuits were unwrapping brand new glass tubes used in solar panels last week. They are the latest, most cutting-edge solar technology, and they are being thrown into dumpsters.

Forklifts brought one pallet after another piled high with the carefully packaged glass. Slowly but surely it all ended up shattered.

And it's not a few loads. Hundreds of thousands of tubes on shrink-wrapped pallets will meet a similar demise.

Solyndra paid at least $2 million for the specialized glass. A CBS 5 crew found one piece lying in the parking lot. Solyndra still owes the German company that made the tubes close to another $8 million.

So why is a bankrupt company that owes a fortune to creditors, including American taxpayers, throwing away millions of dollars worth of assets?

Solyndra is not commenting. But court documents reveal the company received permission from the bankruptcy trustee to abandon the high grade glass, the court agreeing that it was of "inconsequential value" because the cost of storing them exceeds their value.

An employee for Heritage Global Partners, the company in charge of selling Solyndra's assets, told CBS 5 they conducted an exhaustive search for buyers but no one wanted them.

But how exhaustive was that search? The tubes were never included on the list of Solyndra assets put up for sale at two auctions last year.

If they were, David Lucky told CBS 5 he would have bought them. "We certainly would have bid on them, yes," Lucky said.

Lucky owns several large warehouses near Las Vegas. He buys and then resells manufacturing equipment and components all the time.

"Our company has bought a lot of stuff over the years. Truck loads and warehouses full of inventory that companies were just ready to send to the dump, because they don't want to take the time to find markets for it," he said.

When Solyndra shut down last year, he bought hundreds of fully assembled solar panels at the auctions and is reselling them on eBay. "They're going for a third their original price. They are a great deal," Lucky said.

He said if given a chance he would have snapped up the tubes too. "One day some manufacturing company would eventually need those," Lucky said.

Solar scientist Greg Smestad agreed they have value. "As a scientist I said 'Wow, this needs to be studied,'" he said. Smestad has consulted for the Department of Energy.

He recently bought a Solyndra solar panel to study its technology, which is completely different from traditional panels. "It can accept both the direct sun and also track motion, because it's a cylinder," he explained. "The technology is very promising."

Smestad wrote a letter to the auctioneers, asking if they could donate to Santa Clara University any of the leftover tubes after the Solyndra auctions are completed. "Let one student use this as an inspiration for their career and that will be worth something," he said. But the auctioneers wrote back saying they couldn't do that.

"That really makes me sad," said Smestad. "Those tubes represent intellectual investment. These could have had a better value to do public good. I think they owed the U.S. taxpayer that."

Solyndra was hoping to have sold the entire company by Thursday, but they called off the sale because nobody bid for it.

CBS 5 asked more than once for Solyndra, the auction company and the bankruptcy trustee to talk on camera. But they all refused.

CBS 5 also called the German company that made the glass tubes to see if they would have wanted the tubes back. After all, they are still owed almost $8 million dollars. A spokesman said he had no idea they were being destroyed.

The Obama administration restructured a half-billion dollar federal loan to a troubled solar energy company in such a way that private investors — including a fundraiser for President Barack Obama — moved ahead of taxpayers for repayment in case of a default, government records show.
Newly released emails show that the Obama administration was worried about the financial health of a troubled solar energy company even as officials publicly declared the company in good shape. An email from a White House budget official to a co-worker discussed the likely effect of a default by Solyndra Inc. on President Barack Obama's re-election campaign.
Under terms of the February loan restructuring, two private investors — Argonaut Ventures I LLC and Madrone Partners LP — stand to be repaid before the U.S. government if the solar company is liquidated. The two firms gave the company a total of $69 million in emergency loans. The loans are the only portion of their investments that have repayment priority above the U.S. government.

Argonaut is an investment vehicle of the George Kaiser Family Foundation of Tulsa, Okla. The foundation is headed by billionaire George Kaiser, a major Obama campaign contributor and a frequent visitor to the White House. Kaiser raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama's 2008 campaign, federal election records show. Kaiser has made at least 16 visits to the president's aides since 2009, according to White House visitor logs.

Madrone Partners is affiliated with the Walton family, descendants of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton.

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has defended his disclosure of top-secret U.S. spying programs in an online chat as he attacks President Obama over his broken promises.
As he answered readers' questions online, Snowden lambasted U.S. officials for calling him a traitor and said the government won't silence him by 'jailing or murdering' him.
'The US Government is not going to be able to cover this up by jailing or murdering me,' he said in the live chat, which was launched on Monday. 'Truth is coming, and it cannot be stopped.'
The Guardian hosted the online chat with Snowden, who has been in hiding in Hong Kong since fleeing the U.S., as reporter Glenn Greenwald received and posted Snowden's answers.

Among his responses, he said he waited until after the election to release the information as he had been hopeful that Obama would make good on his promises about civil liberties.
In fact, Snowden said, privacy and civil liberties have actually worsened since the re-election.
'Shortly after assuming power, [Obama] closed the door on investigating systemic violations of law, deepened and expanded several abusive programs, and refused to spend the political capital to end the kind of human rights violations like we see in Guantanamo, where men still sit without charge,' he said.

He said he saw no option but the flee the country as the administration would never have given him a fair trial.
'The U.S. Government, just as they did with other whistleblowers, immediately and predictably destroyed any possibility of a fair trial at home, openly declaring me guilty of treason,' he said. 'That's not justice.'
But Snowden added that he did not think it was too late - that the leaks gave the president a chance 'for a return to sanity, constitutional policy, and the rule of law rather than men'.

He called for Obama to set up a special committee to review the surveillance programs and set up a special investigator to review presidents' policies for wrongdoing.
He added that he did not reveal any U.S. operations against what he called legitimate military targets, but instead showed that the NSA is hacking civilian infrastructure like universities and businesses.
U.S. officials say the data-gathering programs were legal and operated under court supervision.
Snowden explained his claim that from his desk, he could 'wiretap' any phone call or email - a claim top intelligence officials have denied.
'If an NSA, FBI, CIA, DIA, etc. analyst has access to query raw SIGINT (signals intelligence) databases, they can enter and get results for anything they want,' he said. 'Phone number, email, user id, cell phone handset id (IMEI), and so on - it's all the same.'
Director of National Intelligence James Clapper has said that the kind of data that can be accessed and who can access it is severely limited.
His online chat comes after China denied that Snowden is working for them after former US Vice-President Dick Cheney branded the leaker a 'traitor and possible Chinese spy'.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a daily briefing today, 'This is sheer nonsense,' when asked if Snowden worked for China.
Snowden himself added in the web chat: 'Ask yourself: if I were a Chinese spy, why wouldn't I have flown directly into Beijing? I could be living in a palace petting a phoenix by now.'
Several nations, including U.S. allies, have reacted angrily to revelations by the ex-CIA employee that U.S. authorities had tapped the servers of internet companies for personal data.

In the webchat, Snowden added: 'Journalists should ask: since these programs began operation shortly after September 11th, how many terrorist attacks were prevented SOLELY by information derived from this suspicion-less surveillance that could not be gained via any other source?
'Then ask how many individual communications were ingested to acheive that, and ask yourself if it was worth it.'
Cheney ridiculed the notion that the NSA was listening in to personal calls of ordinary Americans.
'The allegation is not that we get all this personal information on Aunt Fanny or Chris Wallace, that's not the way it works,' he said.

'What information [was collected]?' he said. 'And the answer is phone numbers and who contacted who. But we don’t have any names associated with it. It’s just a big bag of numbers that’s been collected.'
Of Snowden, Cheney said the breach of security was one of the worst in history.
'I think he's a traitor. I think it's one of the worst occasions, in my memory, of somebody with access to classified information doing enormous damage to the national security interests of the United States,' he said.
He suggested that Snowden, who is thought to have fled to Hong Kong, could be working with the Chinese government.
'I am very, very worried that he still has additional information that he hasn't released yet, that the Chinese would welcome the opportunity and are probably willing to offer immunity - or sanctuary, if you will - in exchange for what he presumably knows or doesn't know,' said Cheney.

Let us stipulate, as lawyers like to say, that President Obama has a deplorable record on civil liberties, one that threatens long-term damage to the country’s constitutional culture.
Why, then, has his base of support not been eroded decisively? Why have so many on the left fallen silent, after railing against George W. Bush’s rights violations, as Obama has prolonged and codified most of the same practices? And why have so few on the right, riding a groundswell of resentment toward big government, failed to resent the biggest governmental intrusions into personal privacy since the FBI’s domestic spying during the Cold War?
The facts are not in dispute. While Obama has ordered an end to CIA kidnapping and torture, he has personally approved kill lists containing the names of American citizens to be targeted by drones. While he has tried to move the accused masterminds of 9/11 and others from Guantanamo to civilian courts (only to be blocked by congressional Republicans), he has also embraced military commissions and indefinite detention. He voiced misgivings about a bill subjecting suspected terrorists to military arrest — whether foreigners or Americans, whether in Afghanistan or Alabama — and then signed it into law.
In practically every significant court case, his administration has argued for an expansive encroachment on individual rights, much as the Bush administration did. Obama’s Justice Department has successfully opposed the habeas corpus petitions of Guantanamo prisoners, persuading conservative judges to rule in one case that sketchy, unverified intelligence reports must be presumed correct. This absurdity has now entered case law as an erosion of the venerable right, dating from the Magna Carta, to summon your jailer before an impartial magistrate.
The administration has continued undermining the Fourth Amendment. It argued in the Supreme Court, unsuccessfully, that law enforcement should be free to attach GPS tracking devices to vehicles without showing probable cause and getting warrants. It has vigorously used a tool that Obama denounced in the 2008 campaign: the administrative subpoenas known as National Security Letters, which are issued without warrants to acquire the library, Internet, banking and other records of individuals suspected of nothing at all. His Justice Department has invoked state secrets, as did Bush’s, to deny wrongfully imprisoned and tortured victims the right to sue the government. The administration has sought broad immunity for Secret Service agents and others in law enforcement who arrest people exercising their First Amendment right to speech.

Obama’s solicitor general has just made a catch-22 argument before the Supreme Court that could exempt from constitutional challenge the law that authorizes the interception of Americans’ international communications without probable cause — the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, broadened in 2008 with Obama’s vote as senator. Because the surveillance by the National Security Agency is secret, his administration argues, there is no way for the lawyers, journalists and rights organizations who suspect they are being monitored to prove that they are, in fact, targets of surveillance, and therefore they have no standing to sue.
These acts aren’t deal-breakers for many voters, except among a small number of civil liberties advocates, such as Conor Friedersdorf of The Atlantic, whose blog “Why I Refuse to Vote for Barack Obama” deplored the left’s lack of outrage. Other liberals, seeing a constellation of social and economic issues, don’t want to damage Obama’s re-election chances by speaking out. He’ll probably get the votes of most lawyers for the ACLU, which has criticized him persistently. And his judicial nominees will be more liberal than Mitt Romney’s. So there is no opportunity for principled voting. Without a civil liberties candidate with a chance to win, pragmatic balloting is unavoidable.
A symmetrical silence about Obama’s rights policies afflicts Republicans. They worry that government is too big when it funds programs for the poor but not when it funds wars. It is too big when it regulates business but not when it regulates individual lives. It can decide whom people may marry, restrict women’s control over their pregnancies and evade the Fourth Amendment by invading Americans’ privacy. Only true libertarians seem to care.
But there is more here than hypocrisy. Terrorism remains a threat, as the FBI repeatedly reminds the country with sting operations that lure hapless wannabes into dramatic plots they couldn’t execute without undercover agents. Each arrest stokes the public’s fear. Furthermore, rights violations are largely clandestine and invisible. Their targets are “others,” meaning foreigners, terrorists, common criminals and various people not like “us.”
Ten years after the 9/11 attacks, polling by the AP and the National Opinion Research Center found that those surveyed supported, by 65 to 21 percent, a government policy to read, without warrants, any emails to people inside the U.S. from countries known for terrorism. By 48 to 37 percent, respondents favored warrantless monitoring of U.S. citizens’ Internet searches “to watch for suspicious activities,” not further defined. In other words, I’m willing to give up your rights for my security.
It’s not generally understood that constitutional rights are not divisible, that those denied to others, including suspected terrorists, are also denied to “us.” For example, Ernesto Miranda of the Miranda warning, who secured our right to silence during police interrogation, was not a model citizen. He had a long record and had kidnapped and raped a mentally defective teenager. Yet his right now belongs to us all.
A certain appreciation of constitutional law is required to grasp what has happened under the Bush and Obama administrations, and neither the press nor the school system educates well on these issues. It has been widely noted that global warming went unmentioned in the presidential debates, but hardly anyone has observed that both poverty and civil liberties (and the Supreme Court) were also ignored by the candidates and moderators.
It took a comedian, Jon Stewart, to raise Bush-era surveillance policies with Obama, on The Daily Show on Oct. 18. “We have modified them,” the president said. “Now, they’re not real sexy issues.”
Stewart replied: “You don’t know what I find sexy.”

Billionaires Dumping Stocks, Economist Knows Why

Despite the 6.5% stock market rally over the last three months, a handful of billionaires are quietly dumping their American stocks . . . and fast.

Warren Buffett, who has been a cheerleader for U.S. stocks for quite some time, is dumping shares at an alarming rate. He recently complained of “disappointing performance” in dyed-in-the-wool American companies like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, and Kraft Foods.

In the latest filing for Buffett’s holding company Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett has been drastically reducing his exposure to stocks that depend on consumer purchasing habits. Berkshire sold roughly 19 million shares of Johnson & Johnson, and reduced his overall stake in “consumer product stocks” by 21%. Berkshire Hathaway also sold its entire stake in California-based computer parts supplier Intel.

With 70% of the U.S. economy dependent on consumer spending, Buffett’s apparent lack of faith in these companies’ future prospects is worrisome.

Unfortunately Buffett isn’t alone.

Fellow billionaire John Paulson, who made a fortune betting on the subprime mortgage meltdown, is clearing out of U.S. stocks too. During the second quarter of the year, Paulson’s hedge fund, Paulson & Co., dumped 14 million shares of JPMorgan Chase. The fund also dumped its entire position in discount retailer Family Dollar and consumer-goods maker Sara Lee.

Finally, billionaire George Soros recently sold nearly all of his bank stocks, including shares of JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Goldman Sachs. Between the three banks, Soros sold more than a million shares.

So why are these billionaires dumping their shares of U.S. companies?

After all, the stock market is still in the midst of its historic rally. Real estate prices have finally leveled off, and for the first time in five years are actually rising in many locations. And the unemployment rate seems to have stabilized.

It’s very likely that these professional investors are aware of specific research that points toward a massive market correction, as much as 90%.

One such person publishing this research is Robert Wiedemer, an esteemed economist and author of the New York Times best-selling book Aftershock.

Before you dismiss the possibility of a 90% drop in the stock market as unrealistic, consider Wiedemer’s credentials.

In the interview for his latest blockbuster Aftershock, Wiedemer says the 90% drop in the stock market is “a worst-case scenario,” and the host quickly challenged this claim.

Wiedemer calmly laid out a clear explanation of why a large drop of some sort is a virtual certainty.

It starts with the reckless strategy of the Federal Reserve to print a massive amount of money out of thin air in an attempt to stimulate the economy.

“These funds haven’t made it into the markets and the economy yet. But it is a mathematical certainty that once the dam breaks, and this money passes through the reserves and hits the markets, inflation will surge,” said Wiedemer.

“Once you hit 10% inflation, 10-year Treasury bonds lose about half their value. And by 20%, any value is all but gone. Interest rates will increase dramatically at this point, and that will cause real estate values to collapse. And the stock market will collapse as a consequence of these other problems.”

And this is where Wiedemer explains why Buffett, Paulson, and Soros could be dumping U.S. stocks:

“Companies will be spending more money on borrowing costs than business expansion costs. That means lower profit margins, lower dividends, and less hiring. Plus, more layoffs.”

No investors, let alone billionaires, will want to own stocks with falling profit margins and shrinking dividends. So if that’s why Buffett, Paulson, and Soros are dumping stocks, they have decided to cash out early and leave Main Street investors holding the bag.

But Main Street investors don’t have to see their investment and retirement accounts decimated for the second time in five years.

The Obama Family Trip to Africa to Cost $60 to $100 Million 2:12 PM, Jun 13, 2013 • By DANIEL HALPER

President Obama and his family will be going to Africa later this month. But the trip won't be cheap; it's expected to cost American taxpayers $60 to $100 million, according to the Washington Post.
"When President Obama makes his first extended trip to sub-Saharan Africa later this month, the federal agencies charged with keeping him safe won’t be taking any chances. Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of emergency," reports the Post.
"Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bullet-proof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the first family will stay. Fighter jets will fly in shifts giving 24-hour coverage over the president’s airspace so they can intervene quickly if an errant plane gets too close.
"The extraordinary security provisions — which will cost the government tens of millions of dollars — are outlined in a confidential internal planning document obtained by The Washington Post. While the preparations appear to be in line with similar travels in the past, the document offers an unusual glimpse into the colossal efforts to protect the U.S. commander-in-chief on trips abroad."

After the paper questioned the costs of a planned family safari, the White House nixed the plan. "The president and first lady had also planned to take a Tanzanian safari as part of the trip, which would have required the president’s special counter-assault team to carry sniper rifles with high-caliber rounds that could neutralize cheetahs, lions or other animals if they became a threat, according to the planning document. But the White House canceled the safari on Wednesday following inquiries from The Washington Post about the trip’s purpose and expense, according to a person familiar with the decision."
The paper adds, "Obama’s trip could cost the federal government $60 million to $100 million based on the costs of similar African trips in recent years, according to one person familiar with the journey who was not authorized to speak for attribution. The Secret Service planning document, which was provided to The Post by a person who is concerned about the amount of resources necessary for the trip, does not specify costs."

president obama hitting the bully pulpit to keep the heat on congress to act. strange bed fellows. plan c. president obama's administration ending the fight on the morning after pill. those are the hot topics. vivian flounder joining and jed legman an ronnie grim from the huffington post. great to have you here. we lead off this discussion talking about the immigration push because in the last hour, the president was at the white house giving i guess, the latest face to put -- the latest human face on immigration starting his conversation by bringing out a dreamer and introducing a dreamer to the audience there and talking about what could get done. i want to play exactly what the president said about trying to find the middle ground on immigration reform. take a listen. it's a compromise. and going forward, nobody is going to get everything that they want. not democrats, not republicans, not me. but this is a bill that's largely consistent with the principles that i and the people on this stage have laid out for common sense reform. to business owners and to legality immigrants. and there is no good reason to undo the progress we have already made.

>> he talks about this being the best chance. are we really up against the clock here? the time crunch before the recess of july fourth and what do you make of the president coming out today addressing the fact it's not perfect but it's good?

>> i think the president is very aware of the fact another big visual going on in washington with the immigration debate. so it's really interesting to see the president speaking about this surrounded by a coalition of support. as you were saying earlier what i like to call immigration strange bed fellows. you have evangelical leaders and when you look at the debate going on in congress you will see the face of opposition. that is the contrast.

>> as you talk about strange bed fellows here, here is steve case who attended the remarks with the president today. steve, great to see you. explain to all of us what made you stand there with the president today for this?

>> i've been working for a decade on trying to reform the high schooled immigration the last couple of years focused here in washington on things like the start-up america of president's job council and key objective is winning the global battle for talent. how to have the best come here and stay here and start companies here to drive our economy but i realized a year ago the only way we get that passed is embrace a comprehend solution and build bipartisan solution for it. gang of eight and the judiciary committee and hits the senate floor and i'm confident we can get this passed and signed by the president the end of the summer.

>> global battle for talent is a great way to take about it. the president spoke about how the immigration reform will impact american workers now in the future. what would that mean you?

>> we are a start-up nation. the reason we have the leading economy in the world is the work of entrepreneurs who create great countries. half of the fortune 500 companies are started by second generation immigrants and high tech companies in silicon valley and elsewhere. we have to have the best talent and to do that we have to patch common sense immigration reform that deals with this issue and deals with it in a broad enough way you can build the kind of bipartisan support missing in the past. i think we have a moment now and we all have to join together in a bipartisan way that the president's remarks were terrific. the signals were getting from people and on the republican side and the senate and the house i think are also encouraging and if people work together in a good faith way and say now is the time to get this done i'm confident it will get done. we will remain the no inter entrepreneurial nation in the world.

>> i want to bring our panel back in right now. we talk about the fact there is a unique time for compromise in washington, d.c. certainly people have been vocal about where the sticking points are in coming to any immigration reform. mitch mcconnell has been vocal about this and recognizing that he feels there are flaws on immigration reform, this bill. take a listen.

>> at the risk of stating the obvious, the bill has serious flaws. i'll vote to debate it and for the opportunity to amend it but in the days ahead there will need to be major changes to this bill if it's going to become law.

>> judd, the serious flaws, is he trying to shine a bright light on what they feel is the lapsesed border security in this bill?

>> well, i think that is really the issue they are keying on and it's kind of odd because marco rubio and the other republicans who are part of the gang of eight were the ones who drafted this legislation and now rubio himself is saying this language that i drafted is no longer sufficient and i might not vote for the bill. so it's an interesting double game that is going on, at least by some of the republicans. but it looks like that they are going to have this vote that will kick off the debate. and, you know, there's a possibility that those issues could be resolved and move to the house which is where an even tougher ballots begins.

>> while that is going on, everyone is, obviously, distracted by the big news with the nsa, the leak that happened with edward snowden and whether or not "the guardian" is running with more sensitive material. you wrote a piece about this, ryan, strange bed fellows, talk about that, the connective tissue made now with people on polar opposites?

>> this is kinds of a shaking out of the politics that started right after september 11th. it traces decades back brnt but right after -- painting democrats as borderline. a lot of these new republicans didn't have experience drafting this post 9/11 legislation and they didn't have ties to the leadership that had fought those battles and they had an extreme distrust of gost. the first time that house leads brought the patriot act extension to the floor, the tea party shot it down. ever since then a push and pull going on inside the republican party that we haven't seen since the 1920s or so this has been exacerbated.

>> it's the right thing. but doing it without any real oversight seriously jeopardizes the rights of all americans. we have to find a way to give the president the power he needs to protect us while making sure that he doesn't abuse that power. you can't have a hundred percent security and also then have a hundred percent privacy.

>> so, ryan, is this it boils down who is watching the watchers and what is the capability of our government and the muscles that are going to be flexed and needed as we advance as a society into the future? the genie is out of the bottle and not going anywhere. we need to be aware of it.

>> when president bush was in power republicans pretty broadly supported the president's extension of this authority and in 2006 democrats opposed this type of use of power and republicans supporting it. today, democrats control the levers of executive power and polls show democrats are standing behind the president much more time this time around.

>> is this just their authority? because extended authority means that it's only temporary.

>> where are they getting the authority some they are asserting the authority. if nobody pulls it back from them, then, sure, they are exercising authority but where does it actually come from?

>> so one thing we want to get on as well because this has been a big news maker today is about the administration announcing it's ending fights to keep age restrictions on the morning after pill. jed, you noticed they asserted it to plan b but only reversed for -- not for the generics. there is a price differential, a big one.

>> right. i think it really shines a light on potentially the power of the pharmaceutical industry because we have seen them dropping their objections over age restrictions for plan b, the brand name of this morning after pill, but the generic alternatives which are much cheaper and more affordable and much more readily available for people who need it they will maintain the same restrictions. the reason is that these generics rely on two pills rather than one pill. doesn't seem like a huge hurdle even for a relatively young woman or girl to figure out.

>> why the about face?

>> i think it has a lot to do with the fact that there's a lot of politics involved. when the president got involved in this and he spoke on this, he put on the cap of father 234 nchief and actually referred to his daughters and said, my goodness. i don't know how i would feel to think my daughters can go and get this kind of medication without me knowing about it. but he firmly put the politician in chief hat on because there have been losses in the lower courts and all indications this would lose yet again on a much larger scale in the larger context of the battles brewing in washington the president can't afford another loss.

Ben Swann's Reality Check: The U.S. Government Created Al Qaeda

 Ben Swann Reality Check takes a look at how the United States government created Al Qaeda and yet in some countries is still fighting them while in others is supporting them.

Question...Why are we Fighting Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, but Arming Al Qaeda in Syria? 

 The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee has voted to send a bill to the floor for a vote that authorizes “critical support to the Syrian opposition through provision of military assistance, training, and additional humanitarian support.”

The bill's official title is the Syria Transition Support Act, and its  two co-authors were Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Senator Bob Corker (R-TN). Aside from providing weaponry and armamments, the bill includes:


• “Creation of a $250 million transition fund each year through FY2015 drawn from funds otherwise appropriated for regional transition support”;

• “Sanctions on arms and oil sales to Assad: Targeting any person that the President of the United States determines has knowingly participated in or facilitated a transaction related to the sale or transfer of military equipment, arms, petroleum, or petroleum products to the Assad regime.”; and

• “Amendment to the Syria Accountability Act: To allow for sanctions removal once a transitional government is in place and certain terrorism and WMD criteria have been met.”

That last one is important, and we'll return to it later.

The bill easily got through committee  15-3, and the only Senator to offer meaningful opposition was Senator Rand Paul ( R-KY).

“This is an important moment. You will be funding, today, the allies of al Qaeda,” Paul said.

 He's 100% correct.

The biggest and most prominent armed factions in the Syrian resistance are outright al-Qaeda affiliates like   Jabhat al-Nusra and the Syrian Free Army, which is a mixture of Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda dominated factions. Even the new 'official' Syrian resistance groups President Obama formed as a figleaf,  the Syrian Opposition Coalition,(SOC)and the associated Joint Military Council are dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood.The leader of the SOC is one Ahmed Mouaz al-Khatib, former imam of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus,  a religious cleric closely allied to the Damascus branch of the Muslim Brotherhood and fairly hardline and radical himself.

Senator Paul tried to tack two amendments on to the bill, one that would have forbidden the transfer of weapons to the radical Islamists of the rebel forces and another that would have prevented the use of U.S. military armed forces in Syria.

Both were voted down.

There were the usual pro-forma remarks from Paul's colleagues about 'oversight' and transparency' but in the end, there's nothing to stop the Syrian rebels from simply telling us what we want to hear to get weapons and our money, and then turning those guns on whomever they wish...including us. The Qu'ran tells Muslims explicitly that any promise made to kuffars (non-Muslims), any treaty or agreement is null and void whenever it's convenient.

Anyone taken a look at what's happening in Afghanistan lately?

Just for the record, (not that it matters), the original Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) enacted after 9/11 specifically called for finding and destroying al-Qaeda..and here we are a few years later voting to supply arms to them!

What this is setting the stage for is a formalization of President's Obama's desire to put Islamists in charge of yet another Muslim country.

What happened in Benghazi was a failed Fast and Furious style covert attempt to purchase and send weapons from Khaddaffi's arsenals to the Syrian rebels. That failed, so now we're going to be doing it openly.

I would not be at all surprised to see U.S. boots on the ground in Syria in the next few months if Assad continues to hold out. That could have been what's behind the deployment of those 1,800 Marines off the USS Kearsarge who landed at the Israeli port of Eilat nine days ago and are now stationed on Jordan's Syrian border.

Americans traditionally rally behind a sitting president when there's a foreign intervention or crisis, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if a U.S. intervention in Syria wasn't timed to head off the fallout from the massive scandals the Obama regime finds itself entangled in of late.

This is a major strategic error on steroids.

Similarities Between Obama And Hitler

The similarities are terrifying, the conclusion inevitable. On March 23, 1933, the German
Parliment met to consider passing a bill that Adolf Hitler had created called the Enabling Act. It was officially called the 'Law for Removing the Distress of the People and the Reich.' Why were the
German people in such distress? Because their government was in utter chaos, and the German
leaders wanted to reassure the people that everything would be ok. The only fly in the ointment
was that the Nazis had, behind the scenes, caused the distress themselves by creating the crisis, so that they could step in and solve it. Sound familiar?

Hitler promised the German people that the government would "make use of these powers only insofar as they are essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures...The number of cases in
which an internal necessity exists for having recourse to such a law is in itself a limited one." So
the German congress voted on the bill, with the end result being the legal destruction of the
German Democratic Republic. The bill gave Hitler enormous, unprecedented powers to do as he
saw fit for the government of the German people. It was the act that offically created a legal
dictator who was answerable to no one. The people cheered, and National Socialism became the
law of the land from that day forward.

The Hitler Youth were a determining factor in keeping their neighbors quite.
